Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is allegedly looking to snap up former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan with a view to buying him at the end of the season.
Spurs are out at 18/1 to win the Champions League after qualifying from their group with a game to spare, but as the rigors of a packed schedule take hold, they may have to invest to keep up their early season momentum.
Redknapp is allegedly interested in bringing Adebayor in to ease their relative striker shortage, with Robbie Keane out of favour at White Hart Lane and Roman Pavlyuchenko hardly setting the world alight.
According to the Sun, a Spurs ‘insider’ said: “There is a real chance we could land Manu in the transfer window – although a lot does depend on who pays his wages.
“City expect us to pay the bulk but the big question is how far our board are prepared to go.”
Adebayor is supposedly on double what any Spurs player is on, which could prove a stumbling block for the Spurs board, as could City’s willingness to offload a player – no matter now troublesome – to a close rival.
The summer saw Redknapp make enquiries about Craig Bellamy but he was eventually sent out to Championship side Cardiff City on loan.
It looks as though Adebayor will be out of City in January, but whether it’s to Spurs is another matter entirely.
