Real Madrid vs Ajax – New challenge kicks off for Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s challenge to bring Champions League success back to Real Madrid begins at home as Ajax visit the Bernabeu in the first round of Group G fixtures.

Mourinho won the tournament with Inter Milan last season having already triumphed with Porto in 2004 and is attempting to provide Madrid with a first victory since 2002.

Real have failed to get past the last 16 stage of the competition for the past six years, but are 3/10 to get off to the ideal start this year with victory over Ajax.

However, Ajax have won on four of the six occasions that they have faced Madrid in the past, including in the last showdown on Spanish soil in 1995.

Furthermore, they are unbeaten in five European away fixtures under Martin Jol and they are 9/1 to condemn Mourinho to his first defeat as Real boss.

Group G was highlighted as being the proverbial ‘Group of Death’ when the draw was made and this was because Italian heavyweights AC Milan are also present.

They are the other team to begin at home and face an Auxerre side that have failed to score on their three previous trips to Italy.

This should give Milan confidence of gaining the three points despite having failed to win in their last six outings at home in Europe, a run lasting almost two years.

Milan are 4/11 to beat their French opponents, while they are 20/1 to win the Champions League for the eighth time in their illustrious history.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho will both be eager to score their first Milan goals after recently moving to the San Siro and they are 7/2 and 9/2 respectively to open the scoring against Auxerre.

Auxerre are 8/1 to win in Milan. See the whole Milan vs Auxerre match betting market.
