RB Leipzig v Atletico Madrid Betting Tips: Will extra time be needed?

Atletico Madrid take on RB Leipzig in the second Champions League quarter-final tonight with a place in the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain awaiting the winners.

The Parisians did it the hard way last night by scoring two late goals to overcome a spirited Atalanta side, and we’re hoping there’s similar drama in store this evening.

It’s all set up for another intriguing night in Lisbon, and it’s one we’ve previewed in our Champions League Betting Tips.

Match Odds

Atletico are much more experienced and wily European campaigners than their rookie opponents, and as such our traders have them down as comfortable favourites ahead of tonight’s tie.

Diego Simeone’s men are 6/5 to win inside 90 minutes, while there’s 4/7 about them qualify. The La Liga side have faced German opposition on four occasions in the knockout rounds and have advanced each time.

Leipzig may be in their first quarter-final, but they’re not just here to make up the numbers. We have them down at 5/4 to make it through and a slightly longer 5/2 to win in normal time.

However, we think the overriding narrative of the match could be the fact that neither side will give an inch, and that both are extremely tough to break down.

The two teams have suffered just six defeats apiece inside 90 minutes this season, and we have the Draw available at 2/1. A 1-1 stalemate is priced up at 19/4, while there’s 1/2 about Under 2.5 Goals.

Talking Tactics

Atletico aren’t famed for their charitable nature, which makes this an even tougher task for a Leipzig side who are without Timo Werner following his move to Chelsea last month.

Yussuf Poulsen looks set to deputise in his absence, while Marcel Sabitzer and Marcel Halstenberg will need to overcome late fitness tests to feature.

Their opponents have issues too, with Sime Vrsaljko and the more influential Angel Correa both unavailable for tonight’s match after testing positive for coronavirus.

Diego Costa is vying with Alvaro Morata to start up-front alongside Joao Felix, while the in-form Marcos Llorente should retain his place in the side.

Goalscorer Odds

Even without Werner’s 34 goals, Leipzig still have plenty of firepower to call upon. Sabitzer has 16 for the season and is 10/3 to score anytime, a price he shares with Poulsen.

The tricky Christopher Nkunku is more of a provider than a scorer, but he’s still capable of popping up with a goal or two, and we have him down at 7/2 to net at any point.

Atletico are keener to share the responsibility around, although it’s Morata who is our favourite to net for the Spanish side at 17/10.

Costa is slightly further back at 2/1, with the aforementioned Llorente a 9/2 chance to add to his double against Liverpool in the last round.
