Lyon v Hapoel Tel Aviv – French side will easily secure progress

Barring a five goal swing, Lyon head into this game already through to the knockout phase of the Champions League and should comfortably avoid any drama with an easy win over the Israeli side.

Lyon won their first encounter with Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 in Israel thanks to a strike from Miralem Pjanić and a brace from Michel Bastos. They look good to come out on top in this clash at 1/3.

The French side have only lost two of their last 16 home Champions League games and they were both against Bayern Munich. Hapoel Tel Aviv have only ever won two away games in Europe’s premier competition – against minnows Željeznicar and Red Bull Salzburg earlier this term.

Backing Lyon to stroll into the next round at 1/3 may not be the most exciting odds you’ll ever encounter, so add some profit by backing over 2.5 goals at 4/6. Lyon haven’t kept a clean sheet in their past four games and Hapoel – with only a win giving them a chance to make it to the Europa League – will have to go out and attack.

Benfica v Schalke

Benfica need to absolutely stuff Schalke and hope that Hapoel can get a big result against Lyon if they are to have any chance of progressing. However, guaranteeing Europa League football will be the Portuguese side’s first priority.

Schalke have been in hugely erratic form this season and followed a 5-0 Bundesliga defeat against Kaiserslautern with a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich last weekend.

Backing Benfica to win at 5/6 looks to be the best bet.
