Chelsea v Real Madrid Betting Tips: Blues in final countdown

| 02.05.2021

The prospect of a second all-English Champions League final in three years remains on the cards after the teams drew 1-1 in Madrid.

Chelsea are 6/5 favourites to win the second leg and 8/13 to qualify for the showpiece following an impressive first-half performance during which Christian Pulisic broke the offside trap to open the scoring only for Karim Benzema to volley in a superb equaliser.

The Blues are in the box seat, though, as we take a look at what could be a thrilling encounter in our Chelsea v Real Madrid Betting Tips.

Match Odds

Thomas Tuchel has transformed Chelsea since replacing Frank Lampard as manager in January and he remains on course for glory in his first season after an impressive first leg against the 13-time European champions, who are 12/5 to win the second leg and 6/5 to go through, with another draw available at 21/10.

Had Timo Werner converted a couple of early chances, Real Madrid could have been dead and buried before half-time as they struggled to adapt to a new three-man defence.

Chelsea have already had plenty of joy against high-quality Spanish opposition having beaten Atletico Madrid home and away by a 3-0 aggregate in the round of 16 and they are available at 17/10 to win and under 3.5 goals.

Jorginho Marcelo Chelsea Real Madrid

The Blues’ last six Champions League games have produced three goals or fewer and all but two of Tuchel’s 15 games in charge have ended that way in the Premier League.

Both teams have been keeping plenty of clean sheets lately but last Tuesday’s evidence suggests there could be plenty of action at either end, with both teams to score priced at close to evens.

Talking Tactics

Zinedine Zidane has injury concerns in defence ahead of the game, with Raphael Varane substituted at half-time in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Osasuna, although Sergio Ramos could make his return having been out since mid-March.

Marcelo should be available despite having been randomly picked out to work at a polling station for the forthcoming local elections.

The big question for Tuchel is whether to give Kai Havertz a starting role ahead of Werner after Saturday’s exquisite double secured a 2-0 win against west London rivals Fulham which strengthened their bid for a top-four place.

Goalscorer Odds

Should Werner make the starting line-up, he is 9/4 to get on the scoresheet and 5/1 to break the deadlock, just like Pulisic, while Havertz is 13/5 to find the net and 6/1 to get the ball rolling.

Benzema hit the post before scoring his clinical leveller and can be backed at 7/2 to strike first and 13/8 to pounce at any time.

The French striker has been sensational this season, scoring 28 goals in all competitions, although he fired blanks at the weekend.
