Bundesliga Betting Tips: Relegation battles dominate weekend action

| 10.05.2021

Bayern Munich may have wrapped up their ninth successive Bundesliga title last weekend but there is still plenty to play for in German football’s top flight.

Three matches being played on Saturday are significant at the bottom end of the table, including the clash between Hertha Berlin and Koln where the hosts are 6/4 to win.

We take a closer look at what’s at stake in our Bundesliga betting tips.

Hertha Berlin v Koln

A dismal tally of eight points from 12 games leaves Koln occupying one of the two automatic relegation spots. Recently-appointed boss Friedhelm Funkel appeared to be lifting the malaise with successive wins, only for Freiburg to visit and take the wind out of the Billy Goats’ sails with a 4-1 win last time out.

Hertha are five points better off in the standings, with two wins from their last three games putting them on the brink of survival. A point should get them over the line and a draw is 9/4.

The reverse fixture earlier in the season was goalless and Hertha drew 0-0 against Arminia Bielefeld in their last home match. Although the Old Lady’s run-in has been less challenging than their rivals, a Covid-enforced delay means they are experiencing a punishing run of games. Under 2.5 goals is available at 4/5.

Koln’s Ondrej Duda, who caught the eye when he was at Hertha, has scored three goals in his last four games and looks a different player to the one who failed to impress on loan at Norwich in the Premier League.

A missed penalty in that Freiburg loss may make him more determined to prove a point against his former employers and he is available at 13-5 to score anytime.

Augsburg v Werder Bremen

No teams have picked up fewer points in their last five games than these two – just one each.

Augsburg, in 14th, are just two points better off than 15th-placed Werder, who are only above the relegation play-off spot on goal difference.

Intriguingly, both teams have scored in all nine meetings at the Augsburg Arena since the Bavarians joined the top flight in 2011. Both teams to score is available at 5/6.

Werder have won more away games than home ones this season and the away win is priced at 9/5.

Arminia Bielefeld v Hoffenheim

Arminia are showing signs of life as they bid to avoid an instant return to the second tier, picking up 12 points from their last eight games. They have won their last two at SchucoArena and the home win is 33/20.

Hoffenheim are safe from the threat of the drop and turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 win last time out against Schalke. Andrej Kramaric sparked the comeback and the Croatian is 6/4 to score anytime.
