Brazil v Germany betting tips and odds

The 2016 Olympics finalists meet again on the opening day of the men’s tournament with defending champions Brazil 21/20 to beat Germany in this Group D clash.

Five years ago, Neymar scored the winning penalty in a shoot-out after the game finished 1-1 at the end of extra time to give Brazil their first gold medal at the Olympics after several near misses.

The Selecao are 11/4 in the men’s Olympics odds to win the 16-team event as we highlight some of the markets in our Brazil v Germany betting tips.

Match Odds

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli boosted his chances of making the starting line-up after playing a starring role from off the bench in Brazil’s warm-up win against UAE in Serbia last week.

Trailing 2-1, the Gunners forward was introduced with 13 minutes remaining, supplying the cross for Real Madrid’s Reinier to volley in the equaliser and then got a goal of his own as Brazil eventually eased to a 5-2 victory.

With the likes of Everton attacker Richarlison, Zenit forward Malcom and ex-Barcelona full-back Dani Alves, there is a good blend of experience and youth in a squad that also contains Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Richarlison played a key part in Brazil’s run to the Copa America final so his fitness levels should be good ahead of the clash with Germany, whose only warm-up came against Honduras on Saturday when Stefan Kuntz’s players walked off the pitch after Hertha Berlin’s Jordan Torunarigha was racially abused.

Germany, 10/1 to win the tournament, have experience in the shape of striker Max Kruse, midfielder Maximilian Arnold and Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs so they should not be written off at 27/10 or 9/4 to get a draw.

Goals could be on the cards in this game if Brazil’s clash with UAE is anything to go by, with both teams to score available at 17/20, three or more goals at 21/20 and the holders to win and goals at both ends is 10/3.

Germany to score the first goal, as UAE did against Brazil in their friendly in Serbia, can be backed at 29/20.

Talking Tactics

Richarlison is likely to lead the attack in a 4-3-3 formation with two from Paulinho, Matheus Cunha and Antony tasked with supplying the crosses from the flanks, although Martinelli has certainly thrown his hat into the ring for a start.

Germany are expected to adopt a similar system with Union Berlin’s Kruse in a central attacking role, with Arne Maier one to watch in the heart of midfield.
