World Matchplay Day 5 Betting Tips: Durrant and Wright battle it out

Peter Wright is the new name at the head of the betting for the World Matchplay after two-time winner Michael van Gerwen was dumped out by Simon Whitlock last night.
Snakebite is now the 5/2 favourite to win the Phil Taylor Trophy following MVG’s exit, but he faces a tricky tie against three-time BDO champion Glen Durrant tonight.
It’s all set up to be another fantastic evening of tip-top tungsten in Milton Keynes, and we’ve previewed all four of the matches on Day 5 in our World Matchplay Tips.
Daryl Gurney (4/11) v (21/10) Vincent van der Voort
Vincent van der Voort shocked Dave Chisnall to make it into round two, and he’ll need to mastermind another upset if he’s to progress to the quarter-final for only the second time in ten attempts.
The Dutchman’s performance in the first round certainly suggests he’s capable of that, but it’s like to be a question of whether the 44-year-old has the consistency to defeat Gurney, rather than if he has the ability.
Superchin is the rightful favourite with our traders at 4/11, although it’s the 180 market that could be of most interest where these two power-scorers are concerned.
Both players are regular visitors to treble bed, and after hitting a combined total of 12 maximums in their respective first round matches, we go even-money about Over 9.5 180s here.
Dimitri Van den Bergh (3/4) v (11/10) Joe Cullen
Dancing Dimitri sent the highly-fancied Nathan Aspinall packing last night with a performance which included a 98.42 average and a 41.67% checkout percentage.
If he can back up those statistics tonight against Joe Cullen, who went all the way with Ian White on Monday night, then he stands a fantastic chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
Both players are capable of spectacular arrows on their day, but like Van der Voort in the opener, they both suffer from a lack of consistency when it matters most.
That could lead to another tight contest between two young players who should sense an opportunity to go far in this tournament. Over 19.5 Legs is available at 7/4.
Peter Wright (4/9) v (7/4) Glen Durrant
This is a tie that wouldn’t be out of place as the tournament’s finale. And with Michael van Gerwen on his way back to the Netherlands, both men will be licking their lips at the prospect of winning the Matchplay for the first time.
Wright was made to work for his first round victory over Jose de Sousa, eventually winning out 10-8, while Durrant breezed past the disappointing Jeffrey de Zwaan with a 106.93 average and 40% on his doubles.
You get the sense Snakebite, although the best player left in the tournament, loses something without the backing of the crowd, which is in contrast to Durrant who perhaps finds it easier to get on with the job at hand.
Duzza is 7/4 to advance, while there’s 8/15 about Over 17.5 Legs. Their last two meetings over the first-to-ten format or longer have produced 30 maximums; and we have Over 11.5 180s available at 11/8.
Danny Noppert (even-money) v (4/5) Adrian Lewis
Could it be a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show tonight for Danny Noppert? The Dutchman saw off Gerwyn Price in the first round, but now needs to follow it up against Adrian Lewis.
Jackpot looked in decent nick against Steve Beaton in the first round, edging out the Adonis 11-9 with a 97.27 average and an impressive 57.89% on his doubles.
Those are both better than Noppie’s comparative first round stats, although it’s Lewis’s ability to hit the back-up 100s and 140s which could see him through tonight.
The two-time world champion is 4/5 to reach the next stage of the competition, and with neither playing checking out more than 104 in the first round, we go 5/6 for the Highest Checkout to be Under 130.5.
