Premier League Darts Betting Tips: Smith and MVG face-off in Exeter

Thursday isthe start of a busy weekend for our nine-fold of Premier League hopefuls, withWeek 5 in Exeter swiftly followed by the start of the Ladbrokes UK Open inMinehead 24 hours later.
That won’t dampen the quality tonight, though, with a quintetof games headed by a rematch of the 2019 World Championship final betweenMichael Smith and Michael van Gerwen.
Rob Cross vDaryl Gurney
Neither of these two have really hit the heights thus far, so both will see this as an opportunity to pick up a valuable haul of points. And we think it’s Cross who could edge this contest at 5/4 v 8/5 for Gurney.
Not only has Voltage won each of his last three against theUlsterman in the Premier League. He’s also proved much more consistent than theNorthern Irishman, who has only posted one average north of 95 this season.
We make Cross a 5/4shout on the Match Handicap, while it’s the same-price about him hitting the most 180s in the match. Matchesbetween the pair tend to be tight and it’s 5/1for a 7-4 Cross victory.
GerwynPrice v Glen Durrant
This is a clash of excitement versus temperament. And it’sdifficult to know who’ll come out on top. Priceis a shade of odds-on at 4/5 after his 7-1 demolition of Peter Wright lastweek, with Durrant parked at 12/5.
Given the contrasting styles of the two players, the match may lend itself to a draw at 10/3. It’s a difficult one to call, although the Iceman has dominated Duzza in the 180 hitting and is even-money to hit the most here.
NathanAspinall v Peter Wright
While Wright has blown hot and cold in this season’s PremierLeague, Aspinallhas been a near model of consistency. He’s hit averages of 95, 101 and93 in the last three weeks and sits atop the Premier League.
The Asp has had the edge over Snakebite in three of theirfour meetings too, with 15/8 saying heincreases to that to four from five. Wright, who averaged just 83.59 indefeat last week, is favourite at 11/10.
He should put in a much improved performance this time around, though, and having clocked 13 maximums in the three matches prior to that defeat, we have him at 11/10 to chalk up Over 3.5 180s here.
GaryAnderson v Luke Humphries
No challenger has ever won a match in the Premier League. Wedon’t think that’s likely to change in Exeter, with Humphries looking veryout-of-sorts in the Players Championship events since Ally Pally in December.
Anderson is a 4/5 chance to scoop up all of the available points, while there’s 7/2 about him finishing as King of the Oche. The Flying Scotsman should be able to asset his dominance and is 15/2 to win the match 7-3.
MichaelSmith v Michael van Gerwen
This should be the best match of the Premier League so far.Both players are around the 100 mark on their averages, they’ve clocked 21maximums combined and boast the best checkout percentages in the league.
It may come as a bit of a surprise, then, that MVG is odds-on at 4/7 against 10/3 for Smith. But that may havesomething to do with the Dutchman having won six from six against Bully Boy inthe Premier League.
One thing that we do know is that both players are capable of the spectacular and should bring out the best in each other. With that in mind, it’s 5/6 for a Checkout over 121.5 and 7/1 for a 170 finish in the match.
