An eight-time major winner makes his 2018 PDC World Darts Championship bow this evening as the Ally Pally action rolls into day four.
James Wade will take on 2014 World Youth Champion Keegan Brown in what promises to be the game of the day.
Elsewhere, Kyle Anderson, Alan Norris and Dave Chisnall will all be looking to start with victories in today’s confirmed first round matches.
Alan Norris v Kim Viljanen
Norris is the heavy 2/7 favourite to start the tournament with a win.
‘Chuck’ has risen to 15th in the PDC Order of Merit after an impressive year on the circuit.
The former BDO World finalist has reached the quarter-final and semi-final of the World Matchplay and UK Open this season.
He’s only once failed to make it past the first round at a World Championship and is taken to inflict a third 3-0 Ally Pally defeat in a row on Finnish thrower Kim Viljanen, at 21/10.
Kyle Anderson v Peter Jacques
2017 has been a landmark year for Anderson.
The Australian won the Auckland Masters in August and reached the semi-final of the European Championship, hitting a nine-darter along the way.
When he gets into his rhythm, Anderson is a sumptuous player to watch. He should get that opportunity against today’s opponent and can land King of the Oche at 6/5.
James Wade v Keegan Brown
This is an intriguing contest.
History and experience dictate that Wade should claim a comfortable victory at 2/9.
But Brown is a talented player and is well capable of nicking a set in this contest.
We’re backing Wade to make it 12 first round victories in a row at the Alexandra Palace, with Brown to nab a set at 11/5.
Dave Chisnall v Vincent van der Voort
Two players looking to rediscover their form on the big stage will meet in tonight’s penultimate match.
For Chisnall, there is no doubting that he has the quality to go deep in this tournament.
But inconsistent performances have blighted his season and that could make this match a struggle against Vincent van der Voort.
While victory may be a stretch for the Dutchman at 2/1, we’re certainly expecting this one to be a close encounter.
