Favourites
It’s hard to remember a time when Michael van Gerwen didn’t start as favourite for a PDC tournament. But it could be worth avoiding his 9/4 odds when you take into account he’s only won one match here since 2016.
GerwynPrice has a much better record in Minehead with final,quarter-final and semi-final appearances to his name in the last three years.He has a good recent record in TV majors and is 7/1 to go all the way.
That’s a price he shares with current World and Ladbrokes Masters champion Peter Wright, who won this tournament in 2017. Snakebite is in the form of his life and is one to be feared at one of his favourite venues.
TheMidfield
It seems odd not to include the reigning champion amongst the favourites. But our traders have Aspinall down as a 16/1 shot. That won’t bother The Asp, who has taken his form up to another level entirely in 2020.
The 28-year-old produced a near career-best performanceagainst MVG in the Premier League last month, and after delivering the goods towin this tournament 12 months ago, will not relinquish his title lightly.
Elsewhere, Gary Anderson may not have the longevity to last all three days at 20/1. Michael Smith, on the other hand, is getting closer and closer to a first major title and cannot be discounted at the same price.
Bully Boy reached the semi-final 12 months ago and onlynarrowly lost out in the Ladbrokes Masters earlier this year. If he can complementhis scoring with some consistent finishing, he’s in with a fantastic chance.
Ones toWatch
There are plenty of notable names available at a big price,with James Wade in particularcatching the eye. The Machine is a two-time UK Open winner and is more thancapable of outrunning his 66/1 odds.
Chris Dobey and Gabriel Clemens will both fancy a run at thesame price; while 150/1 shot WillieO’Connor has shown he’s capable of big things if he can hold hisconcentration throughout the tournament.
Simon Whitlock is another who could pique an interest at 150/1, as could aforementioned debutants Sherrock and Ashton, both of whom are available at 250/1 to win the whole things.
