Summer must be on the way, because the new County Cricket season is upon us.
Surrey are the defending champions after a mighty year in 2018, but they’ll face a stiff challenge from Essex, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Somerset this season.
There’s sure to be plenty of twists and turns, especially amid the backdrop of the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2019 Ashes Series. Several clubs will lose key players this summer, and that could have a big say on this season’s domestic campaign.
County Championship Outright Odds
Our traders like the look of Surrey. The reigning champs have solid depth and quality.
Sam Curran will miss a few weeks thanks to the IPL, but Morne Morkel’s return should keep the attack ticking along nicely. Liam Plunkett’s arrival from Yorkshire is also a boost.
That’s because Essex boast the return of a Test-free Alistair Cook. The former England skipper should have no distractions, and is a mighty asset to the Chelmsford club, while Ryan ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara add further quality.
Next up are Yorkshire at 11/2. Tim Bresnan will be a force, but Adil Rashid may be tied up on international duty for much of the season.
But Steven Patterson’s men have moved over the winter, bringing in the impressive South African fast-bowler Duanne Olivier.
Nottinghamshire will fancy their chances at 7s after a busy off-season.
The arrival of Australian James Pattinson has plenty of promise, while they’ll be hoping Stuart Broad can juggle domestic and international campaigns. Joe Clarke, Ben Duckett and Ben Slater are among the other winter additions.
And after finishing second last season, Somerset will be out to go one better in 2019.
They’ll enjoy the season-long services of Azhar Ali, which should ensure they’re regular among the runs. Jack Brooks’ arrival from Yorkshire could also pay dividends.
