As they prepare for the second test with India, Australia may find the one wicket loss in the first Test emotionally draining after cruising with India at 124-8 at one point on the final day.
With India in high spirits afer VVS Laxman lead them to victory with a fantastic knock of 73, they are a decent price at 5/2 to beat Australia and complete the series whitewash – India to win the series is 2/7.
Sachin Tendulkar, off the back of his ICC cricketer of the year award, will certainly be full of confidence and he will want to make up for missing out on a century by two runs in the first innings.
Tendulkar is 7/2 to score a first innings century and 7/2 to be India’s top scoring batsman in the first innings.
Ricky Ponting’s side know they need a win to enter the winter Ashes series with any confidence, they too are 5/2 to beat India.
But the draw is the favoured result in the India vs Australia betting market at 5/6.
Shane Watson continues to be Australia’s best batsman and England’s biggest threat come the Ashes series, and he is 7/2 to be Australia’s top runscorer in the first innings.
Watson top scored for Australia in both innings and his first innings century was particularly impressive.
However he couldn’t have done it without captain Ricky Ponting who scored 71, Tim Payne, with an almost as brilliant 92, and a fine tail end knock by Mitchell Johnson who notched 47 runs.
Johnson was also on form with the ball in his hand in the first innings, taking five wickets for 64 runs and despite missing out on a wicket in the second innings, the India top order will be weary of the trouble Johnson can cause.
Tendulkar is 11/10 to make a half-century in the first innings. See the full India vs Australia betting odds market here.
