Mayweather v Paul odds: Money hot favourite in Miami to cash in

Floyd Mayweather Jr takes on YouTube star Logan Paul in an exhibition fight in Miami on Sunday night which has generated plenty of interest – good and bad!

Mayweather, now 44, is one of the sport’s legends and is 1/8 favourite to beat an opponent 18 years his junior.

We’re taking a brief look at the Mayweather v Paul odds for what should be an entertaining night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

Paul big underdog

Mayweather is a four-weight champion and unbeaten in 50 professional fights and that will remain even if he loses against the controversial social media influencer.

That’s because the fight has been billed as an ‘eight round special exhibition’ so the result will have no bearing on their professional records.

Mayweather is six inches shorter than Paul, who lost his one and only pro fight against fellow YouTuber KSI by split decision in 2019, so it’s surprising he is just 9/2 to cause what would be one of the greatest upsets of all time.

Paul must come in under 190 pounds while Mayweather will be at least 30 pounds lighter for a fight in which he says all he has to do is “show up”.

Pretty Boy in ugly scenes

Mayweather has already been rattled by Paul’s brother Jake, who sparked a mass brawl after ripping a baseball cap off ‘Money’s’ head during a media event to promote the exhibition.

That has raised tension, according to Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s president of sports and event programming, who told Sky Sports: “I have never seen him that angry. Not even in the (Conor) McGregor press tour when it was very personal.”

Mayweather defeated UFC star McGregor by a TKO in the 10th round almost four years ago for what was billed as the world’s biggest fight in combat sports history but Sunday’s fight is not expected to last as long.

Paul is confident, though, and ridiculed pictures of Mayweather sparring ahead of the fight.

He said: “Floyd Mayweather is so excited that he made someone bleed in sparring. He posted the same picture twice from the same day, he’s so excited.

“You pipsqueak. June 6 is going to be the worst day of your life, dog. I’m going to make this so hard for you.”

Now that’s trash talk.
