How are sports stars keeping fit during lockdown?

Published:

While sport is suspended stars from the world of Football, Athletics, Boxing and beyond are finding new ways of keeping themselves in peak physical condition for when elite action does eventually return.

There areplenty of ways to keep fit during the hiatus, of course. And we’ve rounded up thedifferent ways in which athletes are keeping active while sport is on hold.

PersonalTraining Regimes

This is thebread and butter for sportsmen and women. Each athlete will have been given a trainingregime to follow which replicates the fitness work they would otherwise bedoing with their club, coach or organisation.

However, thatdoesn’t mean that some of the figures aren’t open to interpretation. Chelsea’sRoss Barkley copped plenty of stick for a 16min 5.2km run which did in facttake place over an elapsed time of 1hr 5mins.

Even JoeyBarton got involved on Instagram to take Barkley and Chelsea to task. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have been encouraging their players to join team workout sessionsusing Zoom.

Regardlessof how sports stars are keeping fit, all we know is that shares in GPSfitness-tracking app Strava must have rocketed over the last month or so.

Challenges

Keeping fitdoesn’t have to be all about gruelling runs and statistical analysis. Sportsstars and the general public alike are trying to keep fit by taking up variouschallenges posted on social media.

From theToilet Roll Challenge to the 5k Challenge, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah andJohn Terry are just three of the names to get involved. The one we really love, though, is the 2.6 Challenge.

Broughtabout as a result of the cancellation of the London Marathon, which is run over26 miles, the 2.6 Challenge encourages people to complete any task, fitness orotherwise, 2.6 or 26 times.

Marathonworld record holder Eliud Kipchoge was one of the famous names to take part, while the British Women’s marathon team set about completing a socially distantrelay by running 2.6 miles each.

Encouragingothers

Not everyonehas the same motivation to keep fit at home; take it from us. But sports starsare doing their bit to get the nation up and moving by leading classes eitheron Zoom or via pre-recorded videos.

From Boxingstar Tyson Fury to ‘Body Coach’ Joe Wicks and Sunderland defender Luke O’Nien, there’spretty much something for everyone when it comes to online workout sessions.
