Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips

Ladies Day and the Gold Cup are over, but the great racing does not stop on day 4 of Royal Ascot, with 6 top-class races. The picks of the day are the 2 world-class Group 1 races, The Commonwealth Cup and the Coronation Stakes, where the fillies take centre stage. There’s nearly £1.5million in prize money at stake, so there is bound to be plenty of hard fought races.

Distance: 6 furlongs
Our tip: Nayibeth (currently 7/2)
After winning on debut at Keeneland, our Royal Ascot tip for the first race of day 4, is Nayibeth. Trained by Wesley Ward, this filly showed good pace in her first run out and the short distance should suit her. Recent trends are also in her favour as all of the last 16 winners have never run at Ascot and have only run once or twice in their careers.

Our tip: Private Secretary (currently 7/2)
Traditionally, The King Edward Stakes is a good race for those with short odds. Of the last 16 winners, 15 have been 9/1 or shorter. That’s why we’re backing John Goden’s Private Secretary (that’s the name of the horse, not John’s actual secretary). This impressive 3-year-old has won all 3 of his runs this season and has made the step-up from handicaps to listed. He should be fresh as he didn’t contest the Epsom Derby and with Frankie Detorri in the saddle, he should have a great chance.

Our tip: Ten Sovereigns (currently 11/8)
Another great horse trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Detorri, Ten Sovereigns is our Royal Ascot tip for The Commonwealth Cup. Currently the favourite at 11/8, this 3-year-old has shown great form this year, landing the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood last month. The draw is something to keep an eye on in this race, as every winner (there have only been 4 Commonwealth Cups), have been drawn in stall 8 or lower.

Our tip: Hermosa (currently 5/4)
Another favourite we like is Aidan O’Brien’s Hermosa. This filly has too much class for the rest of the field and after winning both the English and Irish Guineas this season, it’s hard to look past her. Jubiloso impressed in Chelmsford and Newbury, but Hermosa will look to attack from the start in this Group 1 race and Jubiloso may struggle to keep pace.
The favourites tend to do well in The Coronation Stakes, 16 of the last 17 winners have returned odds of 8/1 or shorter.

Our tip: Rainbow Heart (currently 12/1 )
Trained by William Haggas, Rainbow Heart could come out on top in this tightly contested handicap. She should have learned from her last race where she looked inexperienced but with James Doyle in the saddle, we’d expect her to do well.

Distance: 1 mile 4 furlongs
Our tip: Baghdad (currently 7/1)
With a career record of 4 wins from 9 runs, we’re backing Baghdad to impress again at Royal Ascot. Mark Johnston’s 4-year-old is to be ridden by Ryan Moore and with his stamina sure to play a big part, we’re backing him to come good in a close race. This race suits 4 or 5-year-olds, with the last 16 winners all in this age group and 15 of the last 16 having won a race over 1 mile 2 furlongs, which bodes well for Baghdad.
