How the Gold Cup 2019 happened

From the start, Dee Ex Bee took an early lead with Master Of Reality close behind. Stradivarius sat waiting in third as the runners setting off at a steady early pace. There was not much change for the first mile as Dettori was trapped and had to wait for a gap to unleash Stradivarius.

The soft ground didn’t suit Stradivarius but his staying power kept him with the leaders and he timed his charge masterfully. Dettori saw his chance as they turned into the final straight. The crowd roared as Stradivarius hit his stride, pulling alongside Dee Ex Bee and passing with a few furlongs to go. Celebrating a few yards from the line, Frankie Dettori was cheered home by the thousands in attendance as he took home his fourth winner of the day.

Frankie made his customary flying dismount and the Queen smiled as she presented the Gold Cup for the seventh time to the legendary Italian. The win was the second for trainer John Gosden and with the form Stradivarius showed, he might look to follow in Yeats hoofsteps and win the Ascot Gold Cup for a third year in a row in 2020.
