ITV Racing Tips: Will he Who Dares Win in the Chester Cup?

Who Dares Wins

It’s the final day of the May Festival at Chester! Thatmeans four more action-packed races on ITV4, including the Group 2 HuxleyStakes and the ultra-competitive Chester Cup.

Magic Circle won the latter contest last year before going on to compete in the Melbourne Cup in Australia. Will we see another big race contender emerge this time around?

After providing two lovely winners yesterday, we’re back with another dose of our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – PTARMIGAN RIDGE – 1:50 CHESTER

We’ve had the winner and the runner-up in the first raceso far this week. The progressive PtarmiganRidge is taken to complete the set for Richard Hughes and Shane Kelly.

The five-year-old won here last year and almost alwaysgives a good account in these big-field handicaps. He’s hit the frame in six ofhis last seven appearances, including on reappearance at Haydock.

That run behind Listed contender Safe Voyage looks potentially smart, and with just a 3lb rise to contend with and a very handy draw, there’s every chance our tip can go one better on his second outing of the season.

NB – FOREST RANGER – 2:25 CHESTER

Addeybb v Matterhorn v Forest Ranger; this is a right cracker. There’s a case to be madefor each of the market principals, although it’s the latter that takes ourfancy for Richard Fahey and jockey Tony Hamilton.

The son of Lawman took his contest 12 months ago off theback of victory in the Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket. After finishingrunner-up in the same race last month, he should be in fine fettle here.

Highly-rated gelding Zabeel Prince took the spoils ahead of our tip on the Rowley Mile. With Andrea Atzeni’s charge holding multiple Group 1 entries in the summer, Forest Ranger’s form looks very smart indeed.

LIVELY LONGSHOT – WHO DARES WINS – 3:35 CHESTER

Dr Marwan Koukash threatened to strip down to hisunderwear if his horse won this last year. Alan King isn’t making any suchpromises this time around, which is just as well given we’re tipping Who Dares Wins.

Tom Marquand will ride the horse, who is an oldfavourite of ours having won the Cesarewitch Handicap Trial in 2017.His recent form is good too, with an encouraging third on reappearance atNewbury in April.

He’s hit the frame in this race in each of the last two years, but will need to overcome a tough draw in stall 12 to do so again. We have every confidence that he can, with soft ground also not a problem for the seven-year-old.

ITV RACING TIPS:

1:50 Chester – Ptarmigan Ridge (NAP)

2:25 Chester – Forest Ranger (NB)

3:00 Chester – Aasheq

3:35 Chester – Who Dares Wins (Lively Longshot, each-way)
