Arsenal v Newcastle betting tips: Gunners to leap into third with a win?

Published:

Arsenal will be hoping to take their top-four fate into their own hands with a Monday night win over Newcastle, with North London rivals Tottenham dropping points on Sunday.

The Gunners sit one point off third spot, with a win taking them above Manchester United and Tottenham in the race for Champions League football.

Newcastle are on a decent run of form, winning three of their last five, pulling them seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Can the Magpies upset the Gunners’ chances of a top-four finish? We’ve got odds and preview ahead of tonight clash in N7…

Match Odds

Unai Emery’s men boast the third best home record in the league, picking up 41 points from a possible 48 and losing only once, way back on the opening weekend. They’ve won their last nine at home on the bounce, and are odds on favourites to make it 10 at 2/5.

Two wins on the road all season suggests the Magpies have little chance of getting a result at Arsenal’s fortress. Rafa Benitez’s side are 7/1 with us to take three points back to Tyneside.

The last draw between the pair came back in 2011 in a 0-0 stalemate. We’ve got 15/4 on a first draw in thirteen.

Talking Tactics

Emery will be hoping to welcome Aaron Ramsey and Nacho Monreal back into the side after the pair recovered from minor injuries.

The hosts will have to do without midfield enforcers Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira. Xhaka was forced off during Switzerland’s 3-3 draw with Denmark due to a muscular injury, with Uruguayan Torreira missing out through suspension.

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles should regain his place in the starting XI after recovering from a knee injury.

Regular centre-back partner Fabian Schar won’t be featuring tonight due to a two-match ban, though the Swiss International could have been benched after suffering from concussion on international duty.

Goalscorer Odds

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still in the hunt for the Premier League Golden Boot with 17 goals already this campaign. He’s 14/5 to grab the opener, or 5/6 anytime.

Auba has formed a formidable partnership with Alexandre Lacazette this year, with the Frenchman adding 12 goals of his own to Arsenal’s attack. He’s 23/20 anytime, or 11/2 to score two or more.

Mesut Ozil has forced his way back into the side recently, and has looked the player everyone knew he was. He grabbed a goal in the 2-1 win away at Newcastle earlier this season, and he’s 12/5 anytime here.

Salomon Rondon has been Newcastle’s main threat in front of goal this season, and he’s grabbed nine of the Magpies 31 league goals. He’s 11/5 anytime, with Ayoze Perez 10/3 to grab one too.

The Toon Army’s form has picked up since the addition of Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan hasn’t found the way to goal in the Premier League yet, but it’s only a matter of time. He’s a 5/1 shot for a goal anytime.
