2019 World Snooker Champs Tips: The fav, the form pick and an outsider

Love drama? Then there’s no place better than the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield over the next two weeks as 32 of the world’s best battle it out for the 2019 World Snooker Championship.

You can catch every pot, miscue and foul live on BBC or Eurosport up to and including the two-day Final which takes place on Monday 6th May 2019. Need some help ahead of the big break on 20th April?

We’ve marked your card with three tips for the famous old tournament.

The favourite – Ronnie O’Sullivan (15/8)

No prizes for guessing who’s favourite. O’Sullivan ischasing his sixth world title and his first since 2013. There’s every reason tothink he’s hungrier than ever to get one over on the rest of the pack.

His recent battles with rivals Neil Robertson and Judd Trump (5/1) seem to have stoked something in the Rocket. You only have towatch back his victories over both players in the Tour Championship to seethat.

The 43-year-old hasn’t been shown to best effect here in the last few years. But with over 39% of total bets placed on him by our punters, it’d be no surprise if he regained his crown once again.

The form pick – Neil Robertson (9/2)

Robertson has been popular throughout the season. It’s easyto see why. The Aussie has won three ranking tournaments, including the ChinaOpen this month, and reached the final of three others.

Outside of O’Sullivan he’s the form man on the tour. And hischances in Sheffield are helped by being in the opposite side of the draw tothe Rocket, making him an attractive each-way shout.

He’ll need to improve on three successive early exits at the Crucible. But in arguably the form of his career, there’s every reason to fancy The Thunder from Down Under’s chances.

The outsider – Kyren Wilson (18/1)

Our outside tip is starting to make a real name for himself. Kyren Wilson has won both the Paul Hunter Classic and the German Masters this term to move up to 8th in the world rankings.

He made the semi-finals here 12 months ago before bowing outto John Higgins. And it’s those big match defeats which remain a concern forthe 27-year-old from Northampton.

The Warrior may have discovered that winning habit at thetop level. But he doesn’t boast a positive record against any of the world’stop five. If he can overcome that, he’s a serious player here.

There’s further good news for his backers too. Wilson is inarguably the easiest quarter of the draw, which gives him a good chance ofmaking it through to at least the quarter-final stage, and hopefully further.
