Ahead of Thursday’s tee-off, we’ve put together a guide of all you need to know about the legendary US Masters…

What is the US Masters?

The US Masters is one of four major professional championships in professional golf, forming part of the PGA Tour.

The tournament was first played in 1934, where American Horton Smith beat fellow American Craig Wood by two strokes. It took a three year break during World War II between 1943 and 1945.

Patrick Reed is the reigning champion, beating Rickie Fowler by one stroke in the 2018 US Masters. Reed finished the tournament on 15 under par, picking up $1.98m in prize money.

Who is playing in the 2019 US Masters?

Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth are just some of the big names competing in the 2019 US Masters, with McIlroy looking to win his first green jacket. His best finish came in 2015, where the Northern Irishman finished fourth.

Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler also return to compete in this year’s tournament, and are among the favourites to win in Augusta.

Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen are just a number of veterans and golfing legends to be attending the four-day tournament in Georgia.

What are the 2019 US Masters odds?

McIlroy sits as the early favourite to claim his first green jacket in the 2019 US Masters. He’s 8/1 to top the leaderboard after the final round on Sunday.

Johnson and Justin Rose are likely to be McIlroy’s closest competition. Johnson is the man in form which makes him the 10/1 second-favourite to win in Georgia, with Rose sitting third in the running at 14/1.

Woods will be hoping he can find the form to claim his fifth US Masters title. He’s at 16/1 to land what would be a remarkable win. Fowler joins Woods as a 16/1 shot.

Reigning champion Reed isn’t in the best shape coming into the tournament in Augusta. He’s a 50/1 long shot this year, but his win last year could spur him on.

Watson and Mickelson aren’t likely to stick around much longer, so could put on a show for the paying crowd in Georgia. Watson is 33/1, with Mickelson further out at 40/1 to win the tournament.
