PL Darts tips: Van Gerwen to bounce back in Aberdeen?

The arrows keep on flying this Thursday as Aberdeen prepares to host the latest week of Premier League Darts.
There’s plenty to get stuck into ahead of week five, especially after a fascinating three days of darts at the Ladbrokes UK Open at Minehead last weekend.
Will Michael van Gerwen get back to winning ways after his 7-3 trouncing to James Wade last week? MvG takes on local hero John Henderson at the BHGE Arena.
As ever, here’s your full rundown of this week’s fixtures…
Rob Cross to beat Michael Smith
Rob Cross looks like he’s starting to find his range. The 2018 world champion hammered Daryl Gurney last week, and then reached the UK Open final on Sunday.
The statistics look good too. Voltage owns the best checkout percentage and three-dart average, plus he’s thrown the biggest outshot heading into week five.
Our trader make Cross 11/8 favourite and Smith the 6/4 outshot. But Voltage has been dominant in this contest, winning 10 of his 13 meetings with Smith.
There’s Evens about over 11.5 legs, while the treble-20 bed could be in for a pummeling early doors with 4/6 about over 6.5 maximums.
James Wade to beat Daryl Gurney
James Wade is having an excellent 2019. The Machine downed Michael van Gerwen in fine fashion last week, and sits second in the league as he prepares to take on Gurney.
Each man is 7/5 to win the match, with a draw at 3s. But if Wade’s 47% rate on checkouts holds up, the Machine could be on for another victory.
Superchin hasn’t found his groove yet. He’s won the fewest number of legs and thrown the fewest 180s in the competition. Our traders are 15/2 about Wade to be King of the Oche.
Mensur Suljovic v Gerwyn Price – Draw
This is a proper midfield fight, with Gerwyn Price and Mensur Suljovic holding fourth and fifth in the league respectively.
And they’re throwing remarkably similar numbers. The duo have only been beaten once between them so far, are chucking a 98-average while landing 43-44% of their checkouts. The draw is lingering at 3/1.
The only sizeable differing statistic between this pair is the 180s, with Price throwing 16 maximums already to the Gentle’s nine. We go 5/6 about the Iceman throwing the most 180s.
Peter Wright to beat Raymond van Barneveld
Barney’s swansong isn’t going how he would have liked it. The Dutchman is the only player yet to pick up a Premier League win and his 92-average is noticeably behind the rest of the pack.
He thrashed Peter Wright 7-1 in Glasgow last year, but he’s struggled to replicate such performances this time around.
Wright is 8/11 favourite to win on home turf, with Barney the 5/2 outsider. Snakebite is also Evens favourite to land the most maximums.
Michael van Gerwen v John Henderson
Michael van Gerwen surprised us all with his 7-3 loss to Wade last week. Mighty Mike then slid out of the UK Open to Mervyn King in the fourth round on Friday.
So we can expect MvG to roar back with a bang in Scotland against home hero John Henderson. Van Gerwen is 1/6 for victory, having won eight of his nine meetings with Highlander.
Henderson is the 10/1 underdog, with a draw at 7/1. MVG is 11/10 to be named King of the Oche, and 8/15 to throw the most 180s.
Van Gerwen often plays some of his best darts when reacting to defeat. He’s 5/1 to win 7-3 and 8/1 to win it 7-0.
