PL Darts tips: MVG to deny Barney a happy home ending?

Michael Van Gerwen Darts

Rotterdam is ready to roar again tonight as it prepares to say farewell to Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld.

The five-time world champion cannot progress to the next phase of the Premier League after losing to Daryl Gurney last night. Barney will take on compatriot Michael van Gerwen in his tournament finale tonight.

That’s the evening’s penultimate match, but as ever, we’ve got a one-stop guide to every clash right here…

Mensur Suljovic to beat Daryl Gurney

A draw and two wins (including a 7-5 epic over Michael van Gerwen) has really lifted Daryl Gurney into the mix.

But can he beat Mensur Suljovic? Our traders have the Gentle as 6/5 favourite, with Superchin at 13/8.

The Austrian is the form player right now, having won each of his last three matches. Granted, Rob  Cross should have beaten him last night, but Suljovic responded by doing what he does best – focusing on his own darts.

That always puts him in good stead, and it could prove enough to down Gurney. 8/1 says Suljovic wins 7-4, with 10/11 about over 5.5 180s in the opening match.

Gerwyn Price to beat Peter Wright

Peter Wright could offer nothing against a rampant Van Gerwen last night, so can Snakebite bounce back versus Gerwyn Price?

The Scot is slight favourite at 13/10, with Wales’ Price the 6/4 shot. The head-to-head sides heavily in Snakebite’s favour too, with 12 wins to the Iceman’s two.

Price has lost his last three matches, but continues to pummel in the 180s. He’s landed 29 already, with Wright not far behind on 23. Our traders have 4/6 about over 5.5 maximums here.

Wright will be out to atone for last night’s 7-1 trashing, and there’s 8/1 about him taking this 7-5.

Rob Cross to beat Jeffrey de Zwaan

After missing dart after dart to see off Suljovic last night, Rob Cross will be looking to sharpen up his doubles against tonight’s guest Jeffrey de Zwaan.

The Dutchman knows his way around the oche though, and is tipped by many as a Premier League regular of the future.

Cross’s scoring has been excellent lately though, and that should give him the edge for victory at 4/6.

And if he sorts out his doubles, he could leave De Zwaan struggling to get in the game. There’s 13/2 about Cross to win 7-3, while he’s 5/4 to land the most maximums.

Michael van Gerwen to beat Raymond van Barneveld

MVG probably would have never picked up a dart had it not been for Barney’s impact on the sport in the Netherlands. But Mighty Mike is unlikely to show any mercy tonight.

He’s 2/9 to beat Barney, with the outgoing former world champ chalked up at 7/1.

Barney has played some great matches against MVG, but he just hasn’t quite been at the races this season, which could see Van Gerwen ease to victory.

There’s 9/2 apiece about the world number one to win 7-1 or 7-2, while 6/4 says MVG is King of the Oche.

James Wade to beat Michael Smith

He could only take a point last night against guest star Dimitri Van den Bergh, but James Wade’s stats continue to stand out.

The Machine still boasts the highest average at 101, while he’s thrown the joint-highest 180s with 29.

He’ll fancy his chances of a win against Michael Smith. Bully Boy still can’t recapture that Ally Pally form, but has won two of his last three matches.

Our traders have 7/5 apiece in the match betting, with 3/1 on the draw. The stats lean Wadey’s way though, and there’s 8/1 about the Aldershot arrowsmith winning 7-5.
