ITV Racing Tips: Etamine Du Cochet on the mark at Newbury?

Newbury

We’re at that strange time again. The National Hunt season hasn’t quite finished, while the new flat season isn’t up and running until the Lincoln next weekend.

But that’s alright, because the ITV4 crew have still found seven intriguing contests to screen on Saturday, including the Grade 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final.

We’ve tipped up all the televised action from Newbury and Kelso in our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – Kalahari Queen – 1:50 Kelso

Our first tip comes in the opening race of the day, as the consistent Kalahari Queen bids to get the better of four rivals at Kelso.

Jamie Snowden’s charge finally got up to score at Wetherby last time following a succession of 2s and 3s against her name.

The feeling is that this could be the start of a nice little sequence for the six-year-old, who will have man-of-the-moment Aidan Coleman on board after his Cheltenham Festival triumph.

Her wind operation prior to that run looks to have opened up some improvement, and with an impressive round of jumping, should manage to edge out main rival Kupatana.

NB – Elysees – 2:40 Newbury

There are a number of fancies with game contenders in this 14-runner handicap but a chance is taken on Elysees for Alan King.

The four-year-old warmed up for this with a spin on the flat at Wolverhampton, although it’s his second to Quel Destin in a Grade 2 contest over hurdles at Doncaster which excites us.

The winner that day subsequently went onto win at Haydock before finishing a very respectable fifth in the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

That’s a cracking little form line for Elysees, who’s sent handicapping for the first time off a more than tasty mark and can get up to score over the 2m 2f distance.

Lively Longshot – Etamine Du Cochet – 3:15 Newbury

Dan Skelton won this Grade 2 renewal with Roksana 12 months ago. He’s taken to follow that up with the interesting Etamine Du Cochet.

The five-year-old has undergone wind surgery since her last run when a close third behind L’Chamise at Uttoxeter, and we think that should open up further improvement in the raider.

Don’t just take our word for it. See what the trainer has to say, as his raider bids to make it two from two for the yard in this race off a workable mark of 115.
