Chelsea v Dynamo Kiev betting tips: Can The Blues make home advantage count?

Published:

After two nights of high drama in the Champions League, focus shifts to UEFA’s other European cup in the form of the Europa League, with Chelsea hosting Dynamo Kiev.

Chelsea eased past Malmo 5-1 on aggregate in the last round, with Kiev edging past Olympiacos in a 3-2 aggregate win.

The Blues have won every Europa League home tie this season, conceding only once. Can they keep up that level of performance? Here’s everything you need to know ahead of kick-off…

Match Odds

The West Londoners are favourites to win the Europa League outright at 7/2, so it’s no surprise that they come into the game as favourites to take the advantage to Kiev for the second leg at 2/7.

The Ukrainian side come in as underdogs, at 11/1 to take the win, but they did manage to grab a draw away in their last tie in the competition. They draw is priced at 17/4.

Talking Tactics

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has a fully fit squad to choose from, though after a congested fixture list it’s likely he’ll ring the changes in his favoured 4-3-3 formation.

Olivier Giroud has been in great form in the Europa League, scoring in his last five so could get the nod over Gonzalo Higuain. Belgian magician Eden Hazard is likely to be rested, with the highly rated Callum Hudson-Odoi taking his place.

Ross Barkley scored in both legs of the Malmo clash, but he’s one yellow away from suspension. He could be rested, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepping in to the midfield instead.

Kiev manager Aylaksandr Khataskevich favours a 4-2-3-1 formation, and could use it again tonight to attempt to overrun the Chelsea midfield.

They’ll be without Slovenian winger Benjamin Verbic who’s suspended for this one, but they have no other injury or suspension worries ahead of the tie in SW6.

The Kiev trio of Vitaliy Buyalskyi, Denys Harmash and Tomasz Kedziora are all one booking away from a suspension.

Goalscorer Odds

Giroud will be looking to keep up his run of goalscoring in the Europa League. He’s a 3/1 frontrunner to break the deadlock, but if you’re backing him to score in the 90 minutes, that’s 21/20.

Hudson-Odoi has scored two of his three goals in a Chelsea shirt in this competition. He rounded off the scoring last time out against Malmo, and he’s 7/2 to do so again. He’s also 13/10 anytime.

If Sarri does rest Barkley, then Loftus-Cheek will be looking to make a lasting impression on his boss. He bagged a hat-trick at the Bridge in this competition earlier this season, and he’s 66/1 to notch another.

Nazariy Rusyn is favourite to score anytime for the Ukrainians. He’s priced at 9/2.

Viktor Tsyhankov, Harmash and Buyalskyi have all bagged twice in the Europa League so far this campaign. They’re 4/1, 9/1 and 11/1 to score anytime respectively.
