Tottenham v Newcastle tips: Can Magpies pull off another upset?

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United both head into the first Premier League game of the weekend on the back of morale-boosting midweek wins.

Spurs came from behind to seal a last-gasp victory over Watford. And Newcastle pulled off one of the shocks of the season to beat Manchester City.

Can a patched-up Spurs side grab another vital win? Or will Newcastle pull further away from the relegation scrap? Before it gets started, we’ve cast our eye over all the key odds…

Match Odds

Anything less than a win could see Spurs dragged back into a battle for fourth. The North London side are 2/5 favourites to get the points here.

Newcastle have lost each of their last three games against Spurs. But their away record should give them confidence. They’ve won on three of their previous four league visits to Tottenham. They’re 7/1 to head back to Tyneside with a win.

The draw is going for 17/5.

Talking Tactics

With no Harry Kane or Dele Alli, Mauricio Pochettino is set to name Fernando Llorente and Son Heung-Min in attack again.

The Spurs boss will hope Llorente’s late winner in midweek leads to a much-needed improvement in his all-round game. And he’ll need Son to keep fighting through fatigue after his international exploits with South Korea.

Newcastle’s record signing Miguel Almiron has to wait for his debut until his work permit comes through. That means Rafa Benitez’s side will look to keep things tight and nab a goal on the break.

Goalscorer Odds

Son is 10/3 to open the scoring, while there’s 13/10 about Llorente netting again anytime.

Lucas Moura’s energy could also be important for the hosts. He’s 7/5 that he gets on the scoresheet.

Newcastle will need a big display from Salomon Rondon if they’re going to get anything. We go 12/5 that he scores, with Ayoze Perez rated a 9/2 shot.
