ITV Racing Tips: Mullins and Townend set to score with Pravalaguna?

Published:
Naas

Leopardstown saved the day last week and this week it’s Naas to the rescue, following a bout of horse influenza which has wiped out British racing.

There’ll be no racing in England, Wales or Scotland until Wednesday at the earliest, which has meant the cancellation of a hugely exciting card at Newbury.

All isn’t lost, though. Because Naas has stepped in to ensure there will be racing on the box this weekend! And we’ve previewed the eight-race card in our ITV Racing Tips

NAP – Pravalaguna – 2:10 Naas

Pravalaguna looks like the play of the day for Willie Mullins. The seven-year-old was pretty consistent over hurdles but is shaping into a very nice chaser for the Closutton yard.

After producing a moderate performance on debut over fences, the mare followed up with a commanding display on reappearance at Limerick last month to win by 8l from Moyhenna.

The runner-up that day previously finished second behind subsequent Grade 2 winner and JLT Novices’ Chase contender Camelia De Cotte, which makes the form look even better.

Our pick will have to take on some more experienced mares here, but we reckon the daughter of Great Pretender can get up to score over the shorter distance.

NB – Nellie Pledge – 3:10 Naas

She might not be at Naas this weekend but Camelia De Cotte provides another big form line here. Nellie Pledge was on for a frame finish behind her before falling at the last at Thurles last month.

That was at Grade 2 level. So a return to Handicap company should suit Paul Gilligan’s charge down to a tee, especially off a mark of 114 with 7lb claimer Liam Gilligan on board.

The seven-year-old is near the top of the market for a reason, and in a race devoid of any real quality, we reckon the Dubai Destination mare can get up for the second time over fences.

Lively Longshot – Thereisnodoubt – 3:40 Naas

You’ve got to love a horse with a name like Thereisnodoubt. And after winning with plenty in hand at Clonmel last month, Shane Crawley’s raider is firmly in our good books.

His charge is raised 11lb for that success, which is testament to his level of performance in his 8l win over subsequent Ayr scorer Gold Runner.

Crawley has got the six-year-old firing on all cylinders since switching from Augustine Leahy and he can get up again here over the 2m distance.
