With MPs leaving Labour and the Conservatives in recent days, would a newly-formed party have a chance of winning the next General Election?

Eight Labour MPs and three Tories have joined the new Independent Group, which aims to represent “the centre ground of British politics”.

They haven’t formed a party yet, but our traders give any new party a 20/1 shot at winning the most seats when the nation goes to the polls.

The Tories are 4/5 favourites, with Labour not far behind at 5/4.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s all change on the political betting front and we’re not yet ruling out a new party winning most seats at the next General Election.”
