Aberdeen v Rangers Tips: Defoe to be Jermain man in Pittodrie tussle?

Published:

Just two points separate Steven Gerrard’s Rangers from Aberdeen ahead of tonight’s Ladbrokes Premiership battle in the Granite City.

The Dons have edged it by a single goal in the last two meetings, but you can count out home advantage tonight. They’re winless in three at Pittodrie, including a Scottish Cup draw with League 1 Stenhousemuir.

Can they bounce back at home, or will the Gers get a key away win?

Match Odds

Rangers frequently rip it up on the road, winning five of their last eight away games in the Prem. While this probably won’t be as simple as the routs of Hamilton Academical (4-1) and Livingston (3-0), they should have enough quality.

We go 19/20 for the visitors to snatch all three points. Derek McInnes’ side are 3/1 to win, while it’s 23/10 for the Draw.

All of the Gers’ last four games have produced three or more strikes, and it’s 11/10 for another round of Over 2.5 Goals. Meanwhile, a 2-1 win for the Gers is up for grabs at 15/2.

Talking Tactics

McInnes’ men tend to go 4-2-3-1, with young striker Sam Cosgrove their star striker. Behind him, it could be an experienced trio of Niall McGinn, Greg Stewart and Gary Mackay-Steven.

The Dons tend to play wide and utilise the flanks to good effect. The full-back pair of Derby County loanee Max Lowe and Shay Logan will be key if they’re to get a result.

Rangers are a strictly 4-3-3 outfit. Jermaine Defoe is likely to be at the head of that front three, with Alfredo Morelos nudged out to the right.

Connor Goldson is the most notable injury loss, but the makeshift centre-back pairing of Nikola Katic and Joe Worrall have done well together so far.

Goalscorer Odds

Defoe has notched in two of his three Prem games since rocking up at Ibrox. The evergreen poacher is 6/4 to strike Anytime, and 4/1 to break the deadlock as he did at Rugby Park on his debut.

For the Dons, it’s all about Cosgrove. He’s been comfortably their best player this term, and is 19/10 to add to his season’s tally of 12 goals.

Fancy a real longshot? Gers right-back James Tavernier grabbed a brace in Saturday’s 4-0 win over St Mirren – his second double of the season.

You can grab a whopping 33/1 on him scoring Two or More Goals at Pittodrie!
