Tuesday Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Doucoure no more for Watford?

We’re almost halfway through January, and there’s still not been any significant movement where the transfer market is concerned.

The rumour mill is still churning, though, and we’ve rounded up four huge potential moves in our daily review.

Higuain hones in on Chelsea

Chelsea’s striker situation is reaching a critical level. So Blues fans will be pleased that a deal for Juventus man Gonzalo Higuain finally appears close to completion.

The 31-year-old is now as short as 1/5 to seal a move to Stamford Bridge and end a torrid time on-loan at AC Milan. Things started off pretty well for the Argentine at the San Siro.

But more recently the 31-year-old has picked up as many red cards as he has goals in his last 11 matches. A fresh start in London as Maurizio Sarri’s number one forward should do him good.

Doucoure no more, eh?

“I think I am going to leave Watford. The club know my ambitions and want to help me get to the next level.” Abdoulaye Doucoure didn’t mince his words when talking to Canal Plus this week.

The 26-year-old has been a shining light at Vicarage Road since joining the club from Rennes in 2016. Now it looks as though the Frenchman’s time in Hertfordshire is coming to a close.

Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly at the front of the queue. Add in a threadbare Tottenham Hotspur and a Serie A awash with cash, and we could be set for a transfer tug-of-war.

Wolves eyeing up 24-carat Bauer move

Moritz Bauer only signed for Stoke City 12 months ago. The Austrian full-back could be set for a speedy Staffordshire exit amid Premier League interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add to his defensive armoury, a situation which may have been heightened following the dismissal of Willy Boly against Manchester City on Monday.

Wolves are said to be in talks with Stoke over a move for Bauer, who hasn’t featured for the Potters in the league since late-August.

Woo-hoo! Cottagers aiming for Simpson swoop

Fulham have been linked with plenty of new players since the arrival of Claudio Ranieri. Danny Drinkwater and Gary Cahill started things off. Then Ryan Babel added his name to the list.

Now it’s the turn of a more sensible suggestion in Leicester City full-back Danny Simpson. Not only has the 32-year-old worked with Ranieri before. He’s also out-of-favour with the Foxes.

Add in Fulham’s dire defensive record – they boast a leakier defence than Joleon Lescott’s car tweeting explanation – and it looks like the perfect move for all parties.
