Thursday Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Chelsea and Man City enter Eriksen race

With only two weeks remaining in the January transfer window and many improvements still to be made for Premier League clubs, the rumour mill is as lively as ever.

We’re rounding up four of the biggest rumours from the last 24 hours in our daily review.

Chelsea and City join Eriksen hunt

Christian Eriksen’s contract is running down at Tottenham, with an agreement for a new deal no closer. His current deal expires next summer.

Spanish newspaper AS claim that Chelsea and Manchester City have joined the hunt for the Danish maestro, in a deal that could be worth upwards of £79m.

Chelsea are looking to find a player suited to slot straight into the Sarri-ball system, with City looking to further their squad depth. Real Madrid still remains the likely landing place for Eriksen.

Frenkie, it’s far too much…

Manchester City look set to miss out on the signing of highly rated 21-year-old Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong from Ajax.

De Jong would prefer a move to the Etihad to play under Pep Guardiola, but City have told Ajax they’re not willing to match the asking price for the youngster.

Paris Saint-Germain are the only club willing to meet the £66m asking price, so a move to France is becoming increasingly likely.

Maxi, Uruguay we need…

West Ham United are looking to Celta Vigo’s Uruguayan forward Maxi Gomez to fill the shoes of Marko Arnautovic should he move to China.

With Arnautovic looking to get a move to Shanghai SIPG over the line, and Javier Hernandez rumoured to be heading out on loan, the Hammers needs attacking reinforcements.

22-year-old Gomez has scored nine in 17 league appearances this campaign.

Ralph Hush-enhuttl over Augustin

Southampton manager has refused to be drawn on the club’s interest in signing 21-year-old forward Jean-Kevin Augustin from former club RB Leipzig.

With the club looking to add more attacking options after the sale of Manolo Gabbiadini, Hasenhuttl believes the former French-youth international could be a good fit for their style of play.

In the press conference after defeat to Derby County in the FA Cup, Hasenhuttl said  “He has got qualities, he is quick, can score and is used to the high-pressing methods we use, so that would help him if he would be here.”
