Summer 2019 Out of contract XI: Who joins Mario in our team?

In the midst of the January transfer window, we’ve compiled a team of the best players out of contract in the summer. They’re not tied up with new lucrative contracts, so they could be snapped up by bargain-hunting clubs in the summer window… 

Goalkeeper

Iker Casillas – FC Porto

At 37-years-old, the Spaniard is no spring chicken, but he is still a phenomenal shot stopper and could temporarily solve a goalkeeping issue at any football club in world football.

Defence

Filipe Luis – Atletico Madrid

The former Chelsea left back proved during his time in England he could do it in different leagues, and at 33-years-old, there’s still a few years left in the Brazilian.

Diego Godin – Atletico Madrid

Coveted by the biggest clubs for years, Godin is still rated as one of the best centre backs in world football. At 32-years-old, on a free, he’s worth a chance.

Vincent Kompany – Manchester City

Central to building Manchester City to what they are today, you know what you’re getting with captain Kompany. But at 32-years-old and hugely injury prone, is he worth the risk?

Dani Alves – Paris Saint-Germain

Someone all fans love to hate. A winner wherever he goes, and at 35 years of age, the Brazilian could still provide adequate cover at right back for the majority of Europe’s elite.

Midfield

Adrien Rabiot – Paris Saint-Germain

Closely linked to Barcelona, but not confirmed yet, Rabiot has shone in an elite midfield since breaking into the PSG team. Will anyone beat Barca to signing the French international?

Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal

Surprisingly, linked to every single one of Europe’s elite clubs, but not valued highly enough at Arsenal to stay. At 28 years of age, Ramsey is a creative workhorse with more to come.

Juan Mata – Manchester United

Another that has been around forever. The magical 30-year-old Spaniard has often been played out of position since leaving Chelsea, but still creates chances at the drop of a hat.

Attack

Yacine Brahimi – FC Porto

Again linked with a move to England, it could be time to dive into a tougher challenge. At 28 years young, it could be his last and best chance for a shot in the Premier League.

Mario Balotelli – OGC Nice

Why always him? At only 28-years-old, he seems to have been playing forever. Linked with another Premier League move, can he reignite the form of old without the amateur dramatics?

Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich

Injury prone, but still a left foot rocket. At 34 years of age, Robben is the player he once was, but still offers enough skill and pace to challenge the best left backs in world football.
