Southampton v Derby tips: Will the Saints go marching on?

Published:

Attention turns to St. Mary’s tonight, as the live TV action comes from Hampshire as Southampton and Derby County go again.

The Rams came back from 2-0 down in the first game to draw 2-2. But can Saints throw caution to the wind and muscle their way past Frank Lampard’s men?

An away tie at Accrington Stanley awaits tonight’s winner and you can tune into all the action live on BBC One from 7:45pm.

Match Odds

Southampton have progressed to next round in each of their last 10 FA Cup fixtures against lower league opposition.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are 7/10 to maintain their impressive record. But they face a side they haven’t beaten in five FA Cup fixtures, including replays.

Derby to upset their Premier League superiors again is 19/5.

A second-successive draw in 90 minutes between the pair is 27/10. Hasenhuttl’s pre-match chat suggests he may be prioritising the league game against Everton on Saturday.

You can get Lampard’s boys to qualify at 12/5.

Talking Tactics

The Saints will be without the suspended trio of Charlie Austin, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and full-back Yan Valery.

Cedric Soares should come in for Valery but with three of his strikers out, Hasenhuttl could retain the team that beat Leicester City last weekend.

Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond will hope to profit from Shane Long’s unselfish running up front.

Derby are in a fight for promotion in the Championship but may play key man Harry Wilson after he returned from a hip problem.

Lampard has seemed to favour a 4-3-3 formation but could bring in Martyn Waghorn and Florian Jozefzoon in attack.

Goalscoring odds

Long to follow up his strike against Leicester with another goal is 8/5 anytime.

Redmond notched a brace in the first tie and is 6/1 to score first yet again.

As for Derby, Jack Marriott is at 15/2 to open the scoring and 5/2 to bag at any point in the match.

Tom Lawrence has been a key part of Lampard’s Derby County side and is 7/2 to hit the onion bag.

Waghorn to score last comes in at 10/1.
