The lights will be shining down on the Etihad Stadium this evening for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash, in the first competitive meeting between holder’s Manchester City and Burton Albion.

City comes into the game full of confidence after their 7-0 FA Cup demolition of Rotherham United on Sunday.

On the other hand, Burton Albion play their second match in Greater Manchester in four days, with their last game being a 4-0 away win at Rochdale. Could they claim their second scalp in Manchester in the space of a week?

Match Odds

Burton are going into the game as massive underdogs, so won’t be backed by many to win this one. Our traders have them at a chunky 66/1 to win.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won their last three after their minor blip over Christmas, scoring 12 and conceding only twice in the process. They’re 1/33 to win this one too.

The Brewers have drawn two of their last four matches, and a stalemate in this match looks almost as unlikely as a win for the away side. We go 22/1 for a draw.

Talking Tactics

City shocked the majority of fans this weekend by playing such a strong side for so long against Rotherham, who faced an uphill battle by half-time.

A strong front three of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez started that game, so Pep Guardiola is likely to continue playing his main men instead of his youth prospects.

Burton will come into the game with confidence off the back of scoring four last weekend, with young winger Marcus Myers-Harness grabbing a hat-trick.

That confidence could be boosted further by City’s preference to continually alternate their back line.

With Benjamin Mendy still missing, either Oleksandr Zinchenko or Fabian Delph will continue to fill in at left back, with Danilo usually preferred to Kyle Walker in cup competitions.

Goalscorer Odds

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Aguero is the favourite to score first. He’s 15/8 to break the deadlock or 3/10 to score anytime, but he’s not guaranteed to start as City boss Guardiola loves squad rotation.

Kevin De Bruyne needs game time to return full match fitness after injury, and after opening the scoring in the last round against Leicester, he’s 13/2 to open the scoring again. Young Mancunian Phil Foden could also play a role tonight, he’s 19/10 to score anytime.

City’s centre-halves might fancy themselves this evening too, with Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte the defensive favourites to score anytime at 5/1.

Burton may be heavily unfavoured in this tie, but Liam Boyce, Marcus Myers-Harness and David Templeton could be the Brewers best creative outlets.
