World Darts Championship Day 2: Noppert to put Lam to the slaughter?

It’s day two at the Alexandra Palace, and that means the first double session of the 2019 World Darts Championship.
Paul Nicholson and Alan Tabern are among the competitors this afternoon. But it’s the evening session that gets our focus ahead of a huge weekend in North London.
Gary Anderson is among the players on show tonight. He’ll face the winner of Nicholson v Kevin Burgess from the afternoon’s matches.
Danny Noppert v Royden Lam
Royden Lam has yet to make it past the first round in each of his three previous appearances in a PDC major. That run should continue against the dangerous Danny Noppert.
The Dutchman is bang in form at the moment. He won a Players Championship event in Ireland in September by beating Rob Cross and Ian White en-route.
And he followed that up with a semi-final appearance at the Ladbrokes Players Championship last month. It’s difficult to see him being on the wrong end of an early shock at 2/7.
He’s also 11/8 to finish up as King of the Oche, and 21/10 to produce a 3-0 win.
Simon Stevenson v Ted Evetts
These two players are both making their second appearance at Ally Pally and in truth; it’s difficult to separate the pair of them.
Stevenson lost 1-2 on his debut against Zoran Lerchbacher in 2016. Evetts was humbled 0-3 by Gerwyn Price in 2017. However, it’s the latter that has the more scope for improvement.
The 21-year-old has put in some eye-catching results on the development tour this year and is more consistent than his opponent in terms of both scoring and finishing.
Evetts is odds-on to prevail at 4/6, against 6/5 for Stevenson. The youngster is even-money to fill the lipstick more than The Mirror Man, while it’s 7/2 about his odds for King of the Oche.
Chris Dobey v Boris Koltsov
Chris Dobey is another player hitting form at the right time.
The Bedlington-born arrowsmith followed up his last-16 appearance at the UK Open in May with a run to the quarter-finals of the Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals last month.
That’s better than anything Boris Koltsov has put together in the last five years. And it should be enough to see the Englishman through against the inconsistent Russian.
Hollywood is 2/7 to take the spoils, although it may not go all his own way. His opponent has taken a set in each of his two previous first round appearances at Ally Pally.
It’s 9/4 about 3-1 here, with Dobey a 2/1 chance to finish as King of the Oche.
