Where are they now? England XI which drew 1-1 with USA in 2010

England’s matches with the USA are usually filled with memorable moments. Who could forget Kieran Richardson’s first-half double in Chicago 13 years ago?

But it’s a different match which burns brighter in the memory – England’s 1-1 draw with Thursday’s visitors in the opening match of the 2010 World Cup.

Steven Gerrard netted early, before a Rob Green howler presented the USA with a point.

We look back on what happened to the Three Lions XI from that match ahead of this week’s Wembley friendly.

Rob Green

Not all goalkeepers recover from making catastrophic errors in an England shirt. Rob Green did, sort of.

The then-West Ham United stopper went on to play for Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town. He’s now the third-choice at Chelsea.

Glen Johnson

Johnson is currently a free agent following Stoke City’s relegation to the Championship last season.

The right-back has been linked with a number of clubs since leaving the Potters and has also built up a family property business in the twilight of his career.

Ledley King

The only thing that held King back in 13-year career was his own rickety knees.

Those injuries eventually forced his retirement in 2012, at which point the one-club man began representing Tottenham Hotspur as an ambassador. He’s also working towards his coaching badges.

John Terry

Not sure what Terry is up to these days? You must’ve been asleep for the last month or so.

After departing Aston Villa as a player at the end of last season, the 37-year-old rejoined the club as Dean Smith’s assistant earlier this term following the dismissal of Steve Bruce.

Ashley Cole

Almost 20 years after making his debut for Arsenal against Middlesbrough, Cole is still going strong.

The 37-year-old is living it up stateside as captain of LA Galaxy, and is closing in on 100 appearances for the MLS club.

James Milner

It’s hard to imagine a world where Milner isn’t turning in consistently impressive performances in the midfield engine room.

He’s currently a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team – a situation which doesn’t look likely to change anytime soon.

Steven Gerrard

England’s goalscorer against USA is also the first member of the XI to go into management.

The Liverpool legend has enjoyed a terrific start at Ibrox, with his side now 9/2 to win the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Frank Lampard

A Gerrard-Lampard combination in England’s midfield never quite worked. But that didn’t stop the pair going into the dugout together at the same time.

Lamps is currently enjoyed life in the Championship, where his Derby County side occupy the last play-off spot.

Aaron Lennon

Pocket-rocket Lennon started out in the same Leeds United team as Milner, and like his Yorkshire counterpart, is still plying his trade in the Premier League.

He’s made 17 appearances for Burnley so far this season.

Emile Heskey

Emile Ivanhoe Heskey made over 700 senior appearances for club and country before retiring with Bolton Wanderers in 2016.

Despite showcasing his DJ skills against Germany in 2001, the striker is now more commonly found in a TV studio.

Wayne Rooney

England’s record goalscorer is set to make his 120th and final Three Lions appearances on Thursday night.

He’s the only member of the 2010 World Cup squad still involved internationally and is 6/4 to Score Anytime at Wembley.
