MLS Cup Play-Offs tips: Meet the final four

Published:

The MLS Cup is at the business end as only four clubs remain in contention for the most-coveted prize in American soccer.

Wayne Rooney and DC United have fallen and so have David Villa’s New York City FC. But after two rigorous rounds of knock-out football, the stakes are now even higher.

But who has made it? With the Conference finals starting on Sunday we run through who could still claim the prize.

Eastern Conference – Atlanta United FC v New York Red Bulls

The top two lock horns at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as New York Red Bulls meet Atlanta United FC on Sunday night.

NYRB beat Colombus Crew to bag their spot and are 3/1 to grab a vital away win. The Five Stripes begin at 3/4 for the victory.

The draw is 13/5.

The Red Bulls also have MLS great Bradley Wright-Phillips in their side. The young brother of former England man Shaun surpassed the 100 goal mark in his MLS career this campaign.

The Supporters Shield winners bagged 71 points this season and are 15/8 to grab 2+ Goals in the match.

Despite BWP’s side winning both games in the regular season, Atlanta have two of the best players in the league.

Josef Martinez grabbed the all-time single-season MLS goal-scoring record with 31 goals. Miguel Almiron is the chief creator, who Martinez has said is the reason he’s reached the record.

A team with Almiron and Martinez in their ranks could be hard to stop. They’re 16/5 to win and score Over 3.5 goals.

Western Conference – Portland Timbers v Sporting Kansas City

In the West, Sporting KC travel to Portland for the first-leg of their conference final on Monday night.

Portland Timbers are gunning for their second MLS Cup final in the last four years.

After finishing fifth they have had to do it the hard way. They beat FC Dallas 2-1 and then squeaked through to this point with a penalty shoot-out win over Seattle Sounders.

For many they’re the underdog in the final-four. Portland are 27/20 to bag the win. The draw is at 23/10.

After winning the Western conference, KC disposed of Real Salt Lake last time out and are 9/5 to return to Kansas with a victory.

In the regular season, they draw 0-0 at Providence Park. Diego Rubio and Johnny Russell did the damage in a 3-0 home win for KC.

Both teams to score is 6/10. KC’s Johnny Russell and Daniel Salloi could have a big say.
