We launched our new responsible gambling campaign in partnership with the Scottish Professional Football League this week.

We’ve been a sponsor of the SPFL for the last three years and we’ll now work together to help keep players and fans aware of the importance of gambling responsibly.

Responsible gambling badges will appear on player’s shirts, as well as adverts in matchday programmes. LED Boards and interview backdrops will also advertise the campaign, which uses the familiar Senet Group slogan, “When the fun stops, STOP”.

“The ‘When the Fun Stops, STOP’ campaign has proven its ability to connect meaningfully with players and to help tackle problem gambling,” Senet chair Gillian Wilmot said. “Since its launch in 2015, the campaign has reached an estimated 82% of regular UK gamblers, with 33%, or an indicative five million adults confirming that it has helped them gamble more responsibly.

“The decision by Ladbrokes and the SPFL to use our campaign materials is a great endorsement of the work we do to engage with players through positive and engaging messaging, which drives reflection and behaviour change.”

Ladbrokes’ David Macdonald said. “Responsible gambling is a non-negotiable part of the way we do business. We are fully committed to ensuring our customers can gamble with us in an enjoyable manner that minimises harm.  However, we also recognise that while the industry has come a long way in this area over the last few years, there is always more we can be doing to help the minority of people who suffer with gambling-related harm.

“As a responsible business, we hope this innovative scheme proves our commitment to tackling problem gambling through sport across Scotland and will encourage other operators to follow suit, for the benefit of our customers, colleagues and communities.”

Former Celtic star John Hartson was also at the launch event, having overcome a gambling problem himself in the past.

David explained: “We hope that through a combination of our campaign and telling the powerful stories of professional sportspeople like John Hartson, who is now a reformed problem gambler, we can reduce the levels of harm experienced by a small number of gamblers.

“Having John on-board with Ladbrokes will also enable us to get true life experience and seek his advice on where these messages need to be delivered in order to maximise our Responsible Gambling message.”
