La Liga tips: Will Atletico beat Barcelona to go top?
La Liga returns with a huge top-of-the-table clash this weekend as Atletico Madrid face Barcelona.
Barcelona can open up some daylight between themselves and Atletico with a win. But Diego Simeone’s side would leapfrog them into top spot if they take the points.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid will look to continue their winning run under Santiago Solari at Eibar. Sevilla can keep up their surprise title push against Real Valladolid and there could be plenty of goals Villarreal face Real Betis.
We’ve tipped up all four games right here…
Atletico Madrid v Barcelona
Atleti are currently 5/1 to win the title and a win here would put them in the driving seat.
Whoever gets the first goal could get the win here. Their contrasting styles tend to cancel each other out – only one of the last 13 meetings have been won by more than a single goal. Under 2.5 Goals is going for 3/4.
With Diego Godin out and Jose Gimenez a doubt, the hosts may struggle to keep Lionel Messi quiet. The Argentine wizard is 7/2 to score first.
Simeone will be looking to Antoine Griezmann, who’s 9/2 to open the scoring.
Eibar v Real Madrid
Real Madrid look to have turned a corner after the short-lived Julen Lopetegui era. They’ve won four in a row since Solari came in.
They’re 8/15 to keep it going here. Eibar can’t afford to be taken lightly though. Second-placed Sevilla are the only side to beat them at home since the opening day of the campaign.
If Madrid approach this properly, their quality should the difference. They’ve scored 15 goals in their last four games. Madrid and Over 2.5 Goals is going for 21/20.
Sevilla v Real Valladolid
How long can high-flying Sevilla keep it up? The odds suggest they’ll remain near the top of the table for another week at least. There’s 2/5 about a home win here.
Their last two outings have seen Sevilla win with both sides scoring. We go 19/10 that it happens for a third game in a row.
Andre Silva started the campaign with a flurry of goals. He’s slowed down since then, but he started firing again for Portugal during the international break. He’s 10/11 to score Anytime in this one.
Villarreal v Real Betis
Home or away, Betis games tend to be worth watching. Just look at their last outing – they beat Barcelona away in a 4-3 thriller.
Whatever the final result, there should be plenty of action. The last six domestic games involving these clubs have produced 26 goals. Over 3.5 Goals is available for 2/1.
