ITV Racing Tips: Can Frost and Frodon upset the odds in the Gold Cup?

Frodon

There’s something for everyone on ITV4 this Saturday, with the second day of the Cheltenham November Meeting alongside two races on the all-weather from Lingfield.

Ed Chamberlin and co. will be stationed in Gloucestershire, where the Gold Cup Handicap Chase is the highlight of a four-race televised card.

Can Rather Be, Kalondra or Mister Whitaker justify their place at the top of the market? Or will we see a shock from further down the field?

Our ITV Racing Tips are here to guide you in the right direction…

NAP – First Assignment – 3:00 Cheltenham

First Assignment landed a big gamble on his reappearance at Cheltenham last month. Now he’s taken to repeat the trick as he steps up to 3m for the first time in over a year.

The five-year-old has been progressing nicely over the last 12 months and looks ideally suited to this trip off the back of his staying performance three weeks ago.

Ian Williams’ charge has another 5lb to deal with here, but we reckon he’s still ahead of the handicapper and should come out on top.

NB – Vicente – 1:50 Cheltenham

Singlefarmpayment has had enough chances in these big handicaps without landing a big prize, so preference is for Paul Nicholls and Vicente.

The veteran always gives a good account on his favoured good ground and can go one better than his neck second here 12 months ago carrying 1lb less.

Both trainer and jockey have won this renewal in the last four years, so a good account is expected from the raider who has definite each-way claims.

Lively Longshot – Frodon – 2:25 Cheltenham

Bryony Frost Saturday’s are back. The young jockey produced yet another storming ride last weekend to take the Badger Ales Trophy for the second straight year aboard Present Man.

Now her attention turns to Frodon. Frost has guided the six-year-old to one of his two wins around Cheltenham and also rode him to victory on reappearance at Aintree last month.

More is required of the pair here, especially with Frost having lost her riders’ claim this week.

Nevertheless, a solid effort is more or less guaranteed with a Frost horse, and it’s an effort which could see them challenge the places at a more than enticing price.
