Ipswich v West Brom Tips: Baggies to find it tough in East Anglia?

Darren Moore - West Brom

West Bromwich Albion could return to the automatic promotion spots with victory over rock-bottom Ipswich Town at Portman Road tonight.

The Baggies went into the international break off the back of a resounding 4-1 victory over Leeds United.

Can they continue that progress against the Paul Lambert’s improving Tractor Boys? Or will the ex-Aston Villa boss haunt his old Midlands rivals in his second home match in charge?

Match Odds

Ipswich may have home advantage but that hasn’t counted for much in 2018. The Tractor Boys have won just one of their last 16 league matches at Portman Road dating back to late January.

They’re 16/5 to put that right, with 10/11 about a third West Brom away win this term.

The Baggies have the firepower to do some serious damage in East Anglia tonight. But Lambert’s men are tough as old boots in front of their own fans.

An eighth home draw of the season for Ipswich is priced at 12/5, with 20/23 about the Tractor Boys on the Double Chance.

Talking Tactics

This match looks set to be a classic example of attack v defence. No prizes for guessing which side is which. Ipswich should at least have a better chance with Lambert in charge.

The 49-year-old has been credited with making Town much more organised in recent weeks, particularly in their pulsating 2-2 draw with Reading a fortnight ago.

That’ll be important this evening, with Dwight Gayle expected to return up-top alongside Jay Rodriguez.

Add in the joint threats of Harvey Barnes and Matthew Phillips, and the Tractor Boys’ defensive duo of Matthew Pennington and Luke Chambers will have their hands full.

If they can soak up the inevitable Baggies pressure, then Gwion Edwards and Freddie Sears are the obvious threats on the break.

Goalscorer Odds

There’s no shortage of potential goalscorers for the visitors. Gayle and Rodriguez are priced up at 7/5 apiece, with 14/5 about Leicester City loanee Barnes getting on the scoresheet.

The latter of that trio Scored Last against Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the month and is 8/1 to bookend things again here.

Ipswich will look towards Edwards. The Welsh international has four goals to his name so far and is 3/1 shot to add to that tally tonight. Sears is priced up as the 13/5 favourite for the hosts.
