England v Australia tips: Can Red Rose end 2018 on a high?

Published:

The final batch of Autumn internationals take place this weekend, with England looking to end a largely-promising month with a win over old rivals Australia.

Eddie Jones’ men have seen off South Africa and Japan, but couldn’t quite hold on to beat the world number ones New Zealand.

Like England, Australia haven’t been at their best this year. They lost 37-20 to the All Blacks last month, and slipped to a 9-6 defeat to Wales, before bouncing back to down Italy 26-7.

Match odds

Both sides will be out to end the year on a high, with the 2019 World Cup now less than 12 months away.

The Red Rose are 1/3 favourites to earn a 24th win over the Wallabies. Australia, who edge the head-to-head with 25 wins, are 9/4.

England have won each of the last four meetings, however. And three of those have come by 15 points or more.

There’s 15/8 about England to win via a 1-10 point margin, and 11/4 about a winning margin of 11-20 points. England are 10/11 on the -8 handicap.

Team news

Eddie Jones changed the squad around for the nervy win over Japan, but it should be all systems go against the Aussies.

That doesn’t mean he hasn’t made big decisions. Dylan Hartley is dropped to the bench in deference to Jamie George, while Manu Tuilagi might finally see some Test action once again.

Joe Cokaniasiga scored a try in the win over Japan, and will start again on the right flank.
