Arsenal v Sporting CP tips: Can Gunners maintain perfect EL record?

Published:
Danny Welbeck - Arsenal

Arsenal are sitting pretty at the top of their Europa League group, following three wins from three. And they could seal top spot tonight if results go their way, as the Gunners face Sporting CP.

The last meeting saw Unai Emery’s men edge it 1-0. Can they see off Sporting again, or will the Portuguese side cause an upset?

Match Odds

The Gunners are in a rich vein of form, with seven wins in their last eight home games. As for Sporting, they’ve been patchy of late, and lost at home to second-tier Estoril in the Taca de Portugal last week.

An Arsenal win is priced at 2/7 tonight, with the Draw at 17/4 and a shock win for Tiago Fernandes’ side at 10s.

The low-scoring clash in Lisbon was an outlier for these teams. Five of Arsenal’s last six games saw both sides net, as did each of Sporting’s previous four away matches. It’s 21/20 for Both Teams to Score, and 21/10 for Arsenal to Win and BTTS.

In the Correct Score market, Emery’s side are 10/1 for a fourth 3-1 victory of the season.

Talking Tactics

With a spot in the knockouts close to being shored up and a big Premier League clash on Sunday, Emery could rest a few players.

Matteo Guendouzi could return in a 4-3-2-1 system, while cup regular Danny Welbeck will likely resume his role as the lone striker.

Sporting play a pretty similar style and set-up to the North London outfit. Their man threats are likely to come on the flanks, via former Manchester United ace Luis Nani and Abdoulay Diaby.

Goalscorer Odds

Alexandre Lacazette is top of the Anytime Goalscorer odds, and netted against Liverpool on Saturday. He’s 10/11 to score again in this clash.

Welbeck bagged the only goal last time out, and also opened the scoring in the recent win over Brentford with an early brace. He’s 11/10 Anytime, and 7/2 to be First Goalscorer.

The odds make 3/1 shot Bas Dost the visitors’ most likely Anytime scorer. However, Arsenal can’t give much space to Nani. The Portugal international has already netted six times this term and is 4/1 to add to his tally.
