Who are the key men in Watford’s great start to the season?

A top five is already taking shape in the Premier League with three clubs still unbeaten.

However, as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City prepare to do battle tonight and Arsenal and Liverpool face off next weekend, the top teams will begin to take points from each other.

This gives the opportunity for early season surprise packages Bournemouth and Watford to capitalise.

We take a look at how Watford have kept pace with the Premier League powerhouses.

Roberto Pereyra

If you’ve played for Juventus, at any stage in your career you must be pretty handy!

Roberto Pereyra sealed a move to the Serie A big boys in 2014 and even appeared in the 2015 Champions League final.

But it’s for Watford and particularly this season where he has become a star.

The Argentine has already hit the five goals he managed in the whole of last season in just ten games in this campaign.

His solo strike against Huddersfield Town last weekend adds to his growing status.

Bounce-back-ability

The Hornets won their first four consecutive Premier League games and talk about being the ‘new Leicester City’ was getting louder.

A sobering September followed as they picked up only a single point.

The wheels could have fallen off after a 4-0 hammering to Bournemouth. But back-to-back wins have catapulted them right back in the mix.

Gaffer Javi Gracia has switched things up, bringing in forward Isaac Success and changing the full-backs.

They are 15/8 to beat Newcastle United next week who have only kept one clean sheet this season.

The return of Gerard Deulofeu

A key to this revival could be Gerard Deulofeu. La Masia graduate affectionately known as ‘Geri’ has thrust in and out of the Premier League for the last five years.

He has now turned up at Vicarage Road looking to kick start his career back in England.

The 24-year-old’s season has been curtailed by injury but returned to the starting line-up with a goal against the Terriers.

His enigmatic style could be just what Gracia was looking for. If Deulofeu and Pereyra can hit it off on the pitch then the Hornets faithful could be buzzing come May.
