Spain v England tips: Can Three Lions roar against top opposition?

Gareth Southgate England manager

England take on Spain tonight as they search for their first Nations League win.

Gareth Southgate’s side do have points on the board at least after their 0-0 draw with Croatia on Friday night.

But Croatia have struggled to regain the form that took them to the World Cup Final in the summer. Spain are out to prove how good they are after a miserable time in Russia.

Ahead of the game, we’ve got all the key odds…

Match Odds

Spain beat England 2-1 at Wembley last month. They’re now five points clear of England and Croatia in Group A. The hosts are 8/13 favourites to win and secure top spot, with England 9/2 outsiders. The draw is going for 11/4.

La Roja have scored 12 goals in their three games under Luis Enrique. Spain and Over 2.5 Goals is 8/5.

Talking Tactics

Spain are a blueprint for how Southgate wants his England side to play. They are brilliant at retaining possession and moving the ball around the pitch. This will give the England boss a chance to see how far his team have come.

The Three Lions will want to disrupt Sergio Busquets to stop him from setting the tempo. Raheem Sterling could find joy in the space behind Marcos Alonso too.

But the visitors will need to be very wary of Paco Alcacer. The Borussia Dortmund striker has nine goals in five appearances for club and country so far this term.

 Goalscorer Odds

We go 4/1 that Alcacer keeps his red-hot form going and breaks the deadlock. Rodrigo Moreno and Alvaro Morata are 11/8 and 7/5 respectively to get on the scoresheet.

Harry Kane is 15/8 to end his six-game drought at international level. And we go 4/1 that Sterling scores his first England goal for over three years here.
