Sheff Wed v Middlesbrough tips: Will Boro go top?

Published:

Sheffield Wednesday take on fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough at Hillsborough tonight.

The Owls come into the game off the back of a four-match unbeaten run and sit just inside the play-off position.

But can they overcome a Middlesbrough side who could go joint-top with a win?

Match odds

Boro have lost just once on the road this season and are 6/5 to pick up a valuable three points.

The home side are 12/5 to grab a third win in five games which could consolidate their play-off place.

A second successive draw between the pair is 11/5.

Talking Tactics

Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has experimented with his formation so far. They could play a 3-4-3 formation here, but he has played a fluid 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 already.

There’s been a spine to the team including the in-form Adam Reach, Tom Lees, Steven Fletcher and Barry Bannan.

The likes of Fernando Forestieri could come in for this one and Josh Onomah could keep his place.

Boro were stopped in their tracks by an improving Nottingham Forest before the international break.

Tony Pulis could start 5-3-2 to neutralise Wednesday’s attack. He will also have to decide whether to opt for Britt Assombalonga or Jordan Hugill up front.

Goalscorer Odds

Ryan Shotton bagged the winner in this fixture last season. The versatile defender is 11/1 to notch Anytime.

If Assombalonga does get the nod over Hugill then he’s 9/2 to bag first.

Reach hit the headlines for his two worldie strikes against Leeds United and then West Bromwich Albion recently.

The Owls’ forward is 7/2 to net Anytime.

Lucas Joao scored twice to down Bristol City last time out. He’s 6/1 to score the opening goal.
