Scottish League Cup Tips: Can dark horses stop Rangers or Celtic?

We’re down to the final four in the Scottish League Cup, with both semi-finals awaiting on Sunday.

Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Heart of Midlothian face last season’s treble-winning Celtic side at Murrayfield.

That’s followed by a clash between old foes Rangers and Aberdeen, with Steven Gerrard in the dugout at Hampden Park for the first time. We’ve got mini-previews and a run-down of the odds below…

Hearts v Celtic (1:30pm, BT Sport 1 / BT Sport 4K UHD)

This has been a hugely entertaining fixture in recent times, with both sides enjoying their fair share of glory. The last four meetings have seen two wins apiece, with Hearts winning August’s clash at Tynecastle.

In the Match Betting, the Jam Tarts are 19/5 outsiders to win in 90 minutes. Celtic are 6/10 to get the job done, while it’s 27/10 this goes to extra-time.

The goals tend to fly in when these sides meet, with eight of the last 11 head-to-heads producing four or more goals. It’s 15/8 for Over 3.5 Goals here, while a simple Both Teams to Score is 3/4.

In the Goalscorer markets, Leigh Griffiths is the 23/20 favourite to net Anytime. Meanwhile, the on-fire Steven Naismith is 3/1 to register, and 20/1 to bag Two or More Goals.

Speaking of longer-odds picks, Dedryck Boyata has netted in two of his last three outings against Hearts. The big Belgian is 7/1 to give the Gorgie club more misery here.

Aberdeen v Rangers (4:30pm, BT Sport 1 / BT Sport 4K UHD)

The Dons have been decidedly hit-and-miss this term. They’ve seen off weaker teams in pretty routine fashion, but have struggled with their bigger tests – losing to Celtic and Hearts in their last two away games.

Rangers are in a rich vein of form, with a 3-1 defeat of Rapid Wien and a 4-1 mauling of Hamilton Academical in Lanarkshire already this month.

Gerrard’s charges are 5/6 favourites to win this in normal time, with the Dons at 3/1.

The high-scoring Gers are 3/1 to score Over 2.5 Goals, while they’re 23/10 on the -1 handicap.

Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent has already bagged three Prem goals this term, and is 12/5 to open his League Cup tally here. The Dons’ best performer of late has been Gary Mackay-Steven. He’s 10/3 to get his name on the scoresheet.
