Premier League Golden Boot Race: Kane leads Aguero and Hazard

The international break has offered us a chance to take stock on the state of play domestically.

In the Premier League, there’s a familiar feel about things as Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur make up the top five.

It’s a similar story with the goalscorers, with Eden Hazard leading Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

But what does that mean for the Premier League Golden Boot odds? We check out the latest numbers for this season’s award…

Harry Kane

The Tottenham striker won the accolade in 2016 and 2017, but couldn’t keep up with Mohamed Salah last season.

Nevertheless, Kane went into this campaign as 11/4 favourite and he’s since moved into 9/4 market leader after firing in five goals.

Sergio Aguero

Amazingly, Man City’s pocket rocket has only won the Golden Boot once, in 2015. But he’s already in the mix.

The Argentine appears to have won the battle with Gabriel Jesus, to become Pep Guardiola’s main striker at the Etihad. Aguero has rewarded his boss too, with five goals this term.

He was 6/1 pre-season, but our traders have already halved those odds, with Aguero now 3/1. He’ll likely go favourite if Kane succumbs to the burnout many are expecting to strike the England international this season.

Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard may be courting a move to Real Madrid, but right now he’s arguably the best player in the Premier League.

The Belgian isn’t a traditional striker like Kane or Aguero, but that hasn’t stopped him thundering in seven goals in just eight games.

He bagged a hat-trick against Cardiff City, and has seen his Golden Boot odds slashed from 25/1 to just 5/1. On current form he cannot be dismissed.

Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian was a joy to watch last season, as he plundered his way to a Premier League record 32 goals in just 36 games.

He hasn’t hit those heights for Liverpool yet this season, but has still managed three goals.

Salah’s price has drifted slightly from 6s to 8s, but once he rediscovers his form, that price will surely tumble.

And the rest…

Aleksander Mitrovic and Glenn Murray are the only other two strikers to have hit five or more goals so far this season.

The Fulham forward is a 33/1 chance, and is likely to bear the brunt of the Cottagers’ goalscoring needs this term.

Murray will do likewise for Brighton, although the Seagulls’ goal-shy style may hinder the 40/1 shot.

Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are thriving under Unai Emery this season.

The pair have four goals apiece, with Aubameyang 10/1 and Lacazette 12/1. Robin van Persie was the last Arsenal player to win the Golden Boot, but might the duo end up taking goals off each other?

Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku has seen his odds drift from 6/1 to 14s, despite scoring four times this term, while City’s Jesus has fallen way out of contention from 8/1 to 50s.
