National League tips: Home sides could dominate midweek games
Published:It might be Halloween season, but there’s no rest for the wicked in the National League, with a full list of midweek fixtures taking place tonight.
We’re already into gameweek 18 of the campaign, as we rapidly approach half-distance. And as usual, it’s been a thrilling campaign with just four points separating the top seven sides.
Ahead of this evening’s match ups, we’ve picked out five games worth keeping an eye on…
Aldershot v Boreham Wood
Aldershot might be five places and five points below tonight’s visitors Boreham Wood, but at home the Shots are a match for anyone.
They’ve collected 16 of their 20 points on home soil this term – winning four of their last five – while the Wood have already lost five times on the road.
But with Boreham Wood being behind at half-time in four of their eight away games, there’s 12/5 about the Shots to win the first half, while they’re 7/2 on the Half-Time/Full-Time.
Harrogate Town v Barrow
Yorkshire outfit Harrogate are proving to be one of the surprise packages of the season.
The Town have lost only twice, and will be out to bounce back after a surprise loss to Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend.
Beaten just once at home, they’re 7/10 to beat a Barrow side whose only away win came at bottom side Dover.
Harrogate have bagged twice or more in six of their eight home games too, and they’re 2/1 to win on the -1 handicap tonight.
Solihull Moors v Halifax Town
Solihull will be another side fancying a home win this evening, when they host Halifax Town.
Tim Flowers’ men are an impressive fourth, and have collected 19 points from a possible 24 at home.
Their Yorkshire visitors are mired in mid-table, and have collected only one away win this season.
It’s 8/13 for another Moors home win tonight, while 15/8 on the -1 handicap. Halifax have conceded two or more in five of their last seven away games in the league.
Sutton United v Chesterfield
Promotion-chasing Sutton United host struggling Chesterfield, but this might be closer than the table suggests.
The Spireites have bagged a draw in their last three away games, and might fancy their chances with United failing to win four of their last five at Gander Green Lane.
Wrexham v Hartlepool
One of the standout games tonight could come at the Racecourse Ground where Wrexham, unbeaten at home, host a Hartlepool side with just one away defeat.
The Welsh side have been in and around the top three all season, and are 20/23 favourites.
Wrexham’s home success has been built on a resolute defence which has kept six clean sheets in eight games.
That could be the difference, especially as the Monkey Hangers haven’t scored an away goal in over 200 minutes.
