Mexican GP tips: Seventh place is all Hamilton needs to win title
Lewis Hamilton will win the world championship on Sunday, if he finishes in the top seven of the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Mercedes ace leads Sebastian Vettel by 70 points with just 75 still available. Six points for seventh place or anything better will see Hamilton crowned champion.
A stunning second half of the season has seen Hamilton romp away in the title fight, and he is now homing in on a fifth world championship.
Mexican GP Race Winner Odds
Hamilton has won four of the last five and six of the last eight races, but he’s only second-favourite in the race winner betting at 15/8.
Vettel, who has to win each of the remaining three races to have a chance of winning this year’s title, is 11/8.
Ferrari’s number one keeps making mistakes, however, as he did last weekend in America. His team-mate Kimi Raikkonen produced a sublime drive to win his first Grand Prix since 2013.
Alternative Mexican GP Odds
Renault were best of the rest behind the top three in Austin last weekend, but the French outfit might not have it so good this time around.
Mexico’s long straights could favour the Mercedes-powered Force Indias. There’s 13/5 about home hero Sergio Perez finishing in the top six.
McLaren could be in for a difficult weekend too. The former champions have been among the slowest in a straight line all season.
As they seek to overcome that shortfall, there’s 10/1 about Alonso being the first driver to retire in Sunday’s race.
